AP scholars program

Purpose
The Advanced Placement Scholars Program (APS) will provide a variety of college preparatory courses, such as Advanced Placement or Honors to ensure that every student has the opportunity to achieve at an advanced level and is prepared for college.

Theme
APS is part of the nationwide Advanced Placement Program, which is a part of the College Board’s partnership with high schools, colleges and universities. The program will provide students with instruction in college level courses, taught by college board trained instructors. AP courses challenge students with a rigorous academic focus on content knowledge, analytical reasoning skills , and disciplined study habits. The APS program will better prepare students to compete for admissions and scholarships from prestigious universities in Florida and across the nation.

Key Features
APS classes will offer the following:
1. A small college-preparatory learning community
2. College Board trained instructors ensuring rigorous, creative instruction and expectations.
3. A wide variety of AP course offerings to meet individual needs and strengths.
4. Special preparation for success on AP exams.
5. A strong community support group for students in APS.
6. Special activities such as college nights and visits.
7. Summer APS program enrichment opportunities.
8. Special recognition, notation and diploma seal
9. Technology rich environment
Students successfully completing eight or more AP courses will be recognized in their senior year as Advanced Scholars.

APS students have the ability to earn recognition from college board is as follows:
• AP Scholar: 3 full-year AP exams with scores of 3 or higher
• AP Scholar with Honor: 4 full-year AP exams with scores of 3 or higher and an average of 3.25 on all exams
• AP Scholar with Distinction: 5 full-year AP exams with scores of 3 or higher and an average of 3.25 on all exams
• State AP Scholar: Highest average on the greatest number of AP exams in Florida
• National AP Scholar: 8 full-year AP exams with scores of 4 or higher
